Little Laughs, Warm Hugs: A Day as Instant Grandchildren at Syailendra Nursing Home, Jimbaran

On National Education Day, May 2, 2026, the BeaGood team celebrated with Paud Graha Kumara kindergarten. The children’s visit to Panti Jompo Budi Mulia melted every heart in the room — there was singing, tearful smiles, and for one day, the children became “grandchildren” to the elderly residents of Syailendra Nursing Home in Jimbaran.

Our mission that day: “Operation Grandchild for a Day.” The goal was simple — to teach children that love isn’t only for mom and dad, but also for grandpas and grandmas who long to be greeted.

Honestly, the BeaGood team and teachers were more nervous than the kids. We worried the children might fuss, or that the elderly residents would get tired. But what actually happened was something else entirely.

When the Hall Became a Playground

We arrived at 9:00 AM. The usually quiet hall instantly filled with the cheerful noise of children and the warm smiles of the elderly welcoming us in.

The kindergarten children sang “Pura Seribu di Pulau Bali” in front of everyone — teachers, grandpas and grandmas. At first the residents just smiled softly. But by the second song — “You Are My Sunshine” — the room erupted in the loudest applause. Even the quietest residents were clapping and beaming.

The most memorable moment: The “Sweet Memories” session, where the children handed out slices of cake with warm hugs, and the elderly residents clearly savored every moment of togetherness.

3 Lessons We Brought Home:

  1. Happiness is simple. It just takes showing up, having a conversation, and sharing a hug.
  2. Loneliness is cured by companionship. Three hours with us gave the grandpas and grandmas stories to tell for days — even weeks.
  3. Little children teach the purest empathy. They didn’t see wrinkles or wheelchairs. They saw “a new friend to play with.”

The BeaGood team believes that becoming good starts from small things — and from a young age. Keep being kind.

Thank you to Syailendra Nursing Home for welcoming us, and to Paud Graha Kumara for partnering with BeaGood.
